She's Hot??

Actually my human calls it "In Heat" but I don't understand what her being warm has to do with the fact she smells funny and it having mood swings. I'm talking about Atlantis here before you all become hopelessly confused.

It started last Tuesday. Even my human noticed the stale smell emanating from Atlantis and her kennel as she was preparing to release her for her morning potty and frolicking. Once Atlantis and I burned off or morning energy my human gave Atlantis a belly rub as she checked her over for signs of becoming a young and reproductive female. I wanted a belly rub so naturally I did my best to be a pest until I got one too. After finding no physical signs on either of us we went about our daily routine.

Later that evening she checked Atlantis over again. I put my nose up Atlantis's butt in an attempt to help. Atlantis was not amused and glared at me. Did I mention the mood swings?

The pup went from licky and sweet to growly pants without warning. She also started barking in the kennel which is something she didn't do very often anymore. We still played and she still did all her service dog training tasks so my human just kept an eye on her. We also didn't go on any walks from this point on. My human didn't think that would be a good idea.

By Wednesday night Atlantis had sprung a leak. Very gross. She did her best to keep herself clean but my human knew what was coming next. Within a few hours she was bleeding from her special place but since it was late at night she just put Atlantis in her kennel for the evening.

Come Thursday morning it was very obvious that Atlantis was indeed hot. Err I mean in heat. After splattering blood around the kitchen for awhile my human made the call to inform Atlantis's owners of her condition and to make arrangements to take Atlantis to Brian's for the duration of her reproductive cycle.

Now I figured she'd come home and it would be just us. But apparently the humans had other ideas. When my human got home I found Lana leashed to her scooter. Yeah another playmate! This one has been spayed, like myself, so she won't be springing any leaks.

Still both my human and I sure do miss Atlantis. It's only been a day and the house just doesn't seem right without the crazy pup around.

I'm a sick puppy

It actually all started with Atlantis. So I can safely say, and I've wanted to say this for a long time: She started it. That's right, it was all her fault. Atlantis got sick one Saturday morning and she puked and puked and puked some more. She puked in her kennel, she puked in the kitchen and she puked in the office. Technically she puked in all those locations several times.

My human and her friend spent most of the day cleaning up her vomit. I spent most of the day in the kennel as my human was trying to keep me healthy. Poor Atlantis was miserable; she couldn't even drink water without retching. She didn't want to eat, not that I blame her. Though when she was starting to eat a little my human made chicken and rice for her instead of her usual dog food dinner. This I thought was totally unfair.

Sunday was rather uneventful as was most of Monday. Then Monday night I started puking. I christened my humans bedroom carpet with my gastric juices and partly digested meal. Then I puked again, and again. Unlike my young friend I know to go outside when it's time to vomit. Ok so that first one caught me off guard but after that I did very well. I would venture in to the kitchen to rest then back out the doggie door to hurl again. My human stayed up with me and even in the yard with me all night long. Each time I vomited my human would burry the vomit with the rocks and dirt to keep me from stepping in it or trying to lick it up.

Atlantis even gave a little upchuck that night, however it was likely due to all the excitement of seeing my human and I up and about all night long. My human wasn't thrilled about this, cleaning up yet more puke but she did it anyways.

We watched the sun come up together as I finally stopped puking. Then we both went to bed. Later the same day I got chicken and rice for breakfast too. It took several days for both Atlantis and I to fully recover and start eating dog food again but now we are healthy and spry once again.

Emma

Emma came for a visit last week. My human brought her home late one Friday afternoon. Emma is also a golden retriever though she's more like Annie is size. She's very tall. It took her awhile to figure out how the doggie door worked even after I went in and out repeatedly to demonstrate its' function. Atlantis also tried to help guide her through the doggie door several times but she just wasn't getting it so my human would open the back door for her.

Once the novelty of a new playmate wore off, plus it was obvious that Atlantis and Emma preferred each others company I got a little annoyed with Emma. Especially so when she would approach my human for some attention. Once I even snarled at her a little, unfortunately my human saw this and corrected me so I was left with only the evil eye as a means of deterring her.

I did find it very amusing how often Emma would get in my humans way and not know to move out her way. Every time my human went anywhere in the house Emma followed. Every time she asked Emma to move out of her way Emma would just lie down and ignore her. Every time my human called for Emma to do anything Emma would ignore her. She just couldn't seem to find that balance of being with my human but not being in my humans' way. I lost count of the number of time my human accidentally stepped on Emma and much to my surprise Emma didn't mind being stepped on.

My human even tried to line us all up for a photo. You'd think the commands "Here" and "Sit" would be simple enough for all us dogs. And for Atlantis and I they were no problem but would Emma do anything my human asked of her, no. She didn't. So where ever Emma's butt landed is where she'd move Atlantis and I do in the attempt of getting a photo of all of us together.

Of course by this time Emma and I weren't really on good terms so every time I came and sat next to Emma she'd get up and move several feet over then sit back down again. She'd sit with me only if Atlantis was between us. My human tried over the course of several days to line us up for the photo she wanted. She kind of got it in the end but it still isn't quite what she was hoping for.

By now you are probably wondering why my human brought a third dog in to her home. Well I'll tell you. She did it because Kona was very pregnant and my human took Emma in to help get as many of the extra dogs out of the Arizona Goldens LLC household while Kona had her puppies.

Kona had her puppies on June 8th. My human went over to watch and help record the birth. Kona had 5 girls and 1 boy. All 6 are alive and very strong pups. The father is Lexington.

Emma went home last Thursday night and now my home is getting back to normal. But for how long?????
