House Guests

For the past several days we have had house guests. Naturally I'm always excited about the prospect of more attention and petting. After all, everyone comes to see me, don't they? However these two just haven't figured it out yet.

I wag my tail and try to be cute. I sniff, nudge and try to stay close. I share my drool and shed fur with them. I greet them with as much excitement as I can muster when they return from a trip or errands. Still they mostly ignore me. I just don't get it. I must say, they always come home with lots of new and interesting smells on them. I smell everything from food, to kids, other people and even other pets.

One evening the nice lady even made cookies. I thought my charms had finally won her over, but no. I wasn't given a single cookie, not one! Finally after days of tremendous effort on my part I was finally given a bit of a Grapefruit as reward for my unwavering devotion. Then I got a bath. Oh well. I guess you have to live through the less pleasant experiences to get the yummy food items.

I was even clean for a little over a day this time too! Thankfully a few rolls in the dirt put the musty smell I love so much back in my fur.

My human and the other human lady even took me for a nice long walk with the scooters. That was great fun. I just love my walks.

On something called "new years eve" the humans trotted outside to watch some pretty fireworks. I wasn't allowed to help. Though the experience must have been thrilling; they were all so wound up and energized after the show. I don't know if it was the fireworks themselves or the accidental burning of a neighbors bush however. On the bright side, the neighbor didn't mind that the burned her bush accidentally and suggested that they aim for the palm tree next time, then gave them some fresh grapefruit from her tree. Humans are truly bizarre creatures. I'll never understand them.
