Power Paws Walk'n Roll Dog Walk

Yesterday morning my human decided to get up very early in the morning. It was so early the sun wasn't even up yet. I could hardly hold my own head up I was so tired but being the good dog that I am I stuck by her and tried not to doze off while she was eating breakfast.

She kept telling me about all the fun we were going to have at the Power Paws dog walk and that Annie was coming too. It was too early so I didn't believe her. Humans are prone to moments of temporary insanity after all.

I tried to curl up on the sofa for a little extra beauty sleep when a car pulled in the drive. I was sent outside and forced to stand there as she let Annie and her human in the house. Finally Annie was released from her leash and I from my "stay". We ran and jumped and wrestled around the back yard while the humans did whatever it is humans do.

Then we were loaded up in to my humans van and hit the road. Ok so maybe it wasn't going to be a dull day after all.

When we arrived at our destination it was filled with humans and dogs for as far as the eye could see. I wanted to go sniff out a few studs, my human wanted to find the registration table. Guess who won.

After registration I wanted to go sniff out a few studs. The other human wanted to go to the bathroom. Why can't humans just pee on a tree like everyone I know? Guess who won.

Finally we mingle. Humans chat and we dogs sniff. It's wonderful. We started out on the 3 miles walk but the wind was too strong and cold for my human so we turned back and hit up the vendor tables. People petted me and told me how pretty I was everywhere we went.

The vendors gave us treats, snacks and all sorts of goodies as they visited with our humans. In fact we got so much stuff my human had to open the basket on the back of her scooter just to hold the overflow.

We met so many people; one even recognized my human from previous events and invited us to another event. We sat and watched a little of the Great Dane Drill Team perform their obedience demonstration but our humans were getting hungry and tired. They would have loved to eat at the event, last year the meal was included in the registration fee, but this year they wanted way too much money to eat so we left.

The humans picked up some hamburgers on the way back to my place and they ate while Annie and I ran amok in the back yard once again.

It was a blast!

Tongues A Waggin'

A few of my friends stopped by the other day. Technically it was a training class but afterwards we were let loose to run and play in my back yard. We ran and jumped until we could hardly breathe. It was wonderful.

Afterwards we decided to have a little contest to see who had the longest tongue. This photo was taken to document to the historic event. Who won? I'll let you decide.

Shock

My human and I have been struggling a bit lately. You see every time I want to do something, I do it. She can't stop me. Let's face it, I'm stronger and she's crippled. I'll win in any physical contest and since I know I can't win a contest of wills I have resorted to using my physical advantage to getting what I want.

When someone comes to the door, she tells me to go outside. I do this. As soon as that person steps into the house I want to run over and greet them. Maybe get a little petting in the process. I know I'm supposed to wait for permission to come in but when I realized my human couldn't actually stop me from coming in I started coming in on my own accord. Often this meant nearly knocking my human over in the process. It's not that I wanted to hurt her. I just can't always control my excitement.

When we are out in public I know that if I lean way out or run ahead of my human I can usually find someone willing to break the rules and pet me. Naturally since these other humans are willing to break the rules so easily I figure I can too. So while in the store I'll often lean out or approach people we come across even if this means I pull my human off balance when she's walking. The best part is, even when she yells at these other humans they just keep petting me! I love being so irresistibly cute.

After months of this and these behaviors, according to my human, getting worse no matter what she did, she finally gave up and bought a shock collar for me. We are kind of at odds on this issue and I know she doesn't like to use it. I'm not thrilled about being shocked and she hates to cause me pain. In fact she even shocked herself with the collar when it first came just to make sure it wasn't too painful.

As much as she doesn't like to use it, the collar has swung the balance of power back in her favor and after a few jolts I won't dare enter the house without permission when company arrives. We haven't tried out in public yet. I think she's waiting for the weather to improve before venturing out but I'd be willing to bet that my days of soliciting for affection are nearly to an end.

I'm Still Here

After the guests all left my human needed to get back to work. Lucky for her a few new clients appeared and she's been busily typing away ever since. It's hard to get my paws to the computer when she won't get off of it. To make matters worse the few times that she has wandered away from the computer to watch TV, there hasn't been anything interesting on TV. So after a few minutes of channel surfing she goes right back to the computer. Finally I got a few minutes to post this but with her work ethics I may not get back to the computer for awhile.

House Guests

For the past several days we have had house guests. Naturally I'm always excited about the prospect of more attention and petting. After all, everyone comes to see me, don't they? However these two just haven't figured it out yet.

I wag my tail and try to be cute. I sniff, nudge and try to stay close. I share my drool and shed fur with them. I greet them with as much excitement as I can muster when they return from a trip or errands. Still they mostly ignore me. I just don't get it. I must say, they always come home with lots of new and interesting smells on them. I smell everything from food, to kids, other people and even other pets.

One evening the nice lady even made cookies. I thought my charms had finally won her over, but no. I wasn't given a single cookie, not one! Finally after days of tremendous effort on my part I was finally given a bit of a Grapefruit as reward for my unwavering devotion. Then I got a bath. Oh well. I guess you have to live through the less pleasant experiences to get the yummy food items.

I was even clean for a little over a day this time too! Thankfully a few rolls in the dirt put the musty smell I love so much back in my fur.

My human and the other human lady even took me for a nice long walk with the scooters. That was great fun. I just love my walks.

On something called "new years eve" the humans trotted outside to watch some pretty fireworks. I wasn't allowed to help. Though the experience must have been thrilling; they were all so wound up and energized after the show. I don't know if it was the fireworks themselves or the accidental burning of a neighbors bush however. On the bright side, the neighbor didn't mind that the burned her bush accidentally and suggested that they aim for the palm tree next time, then gave them some fresh grapefruit from her tree. Humans are truly bizarre creatures. I'll never understand them.
